How to potty train my 8 week old puppy?
I just got an 8 week old pomeranian and I'm not sure how to the whole potty training thing is... I was told to grab him and show him and tell him no and slap him on the butt but I dont find that appropriate lol also, if i train him on the training pads, how long will i use the pads for? once I get rid of the training pads where can they do their stuff when in the house? and once they're trained can they sleep with me in the bed without wetting it? I was told to sleep with him right away for bonding but I'm afraid he might ruin the mattress lol

Don't sleep with him the bed, he will wet it. As to the training, you can either use the pads and then slowly move them towards the door. The idea being that he'll learn to go to the door to signal you. We didn't use pads, we simply gave him some water and then half hour later took him outside, once you get him out there and he makes, praise him to high heaven. There's no need to smack his bottom, just strongly saying no will do, but it's only useful if you catch him in the act. If you come across a puddle after the fact, just clean it up, take him out and encourage him to make, reprimanding him will only confuse him if it's not in the moment. It takes time and there will be messes. I'd also encourage you to start a training course as soon as possible. Training young provides a better foundation than waiting does (even by six months). Also if your planning on leaving him alone during the day time you may want to invest in a kennel, it'll help him stay safe (not getting into things and tearing them apart) and learn to calm himself while your gone. It also provides him a place that his own, he should sleep there as well early on. Once he's potty trained and can behave himself during the night you can leave the kennel open and let him decide where he wants to sleep. Know that once he becomes used to sleeping your bed or laying on the couch it becomes a hard habit to break. So make your decisions based on the long run, not what you want now.
